Generally Good condition  (please see scans) For your information.  Whoever originally inscribed the back of the the
postcard where the "Captain" of HMS Glasgow is waving got it wrong I'm
afraid.  During the time of the battle Glasgow was off the coast of
Norway!  He is in fact Rear Admiral Sir Henry Harwood who commanded the
British naval squadron during the Plate engagement.  The picture was
taken when HMS Ajax, his flagship, arrived in Montevideo after the
battle and after he had been promoted from Commodore and also made a
Kb.  The civilian holding the hat standing next to him is Eugene
Millington-Drake, the British Naval Attache in Montevideo at the time
who was a prime mover in deceiving the Germans into believing that half
the British fleet was waiting at sea ready to destroy Graf Spee when
she came out.  When she did emerge she scuttled herself, thus the
destruction shown in the postcards you are selling.
