The Turners Workshop recommends you use sharp tools, for the lighter colour ranges paint the brass tubes, finish with Indasa Abrasive Paper then Micro Mesh Pad’s.

For the final phase a liquid abrasive like Novus, Hut Products Liquid Gloss Polish.
