Collectable Magic Superba Wonder Tray by Thayer.

Rare (c. 1939). Two 12 inch x 17 inch frames are hinged together. The Thayer catalog described the tray as a means to change a spring rabbit into a box of candy. The tray consists of frames covered with black elastic cloth. The hinge is comprised of ribbons configured like the tumble blocks novelty. Handled properly, a relatively thin object can be concealed within the fabric and exchanged with another object. This particular tray was used for many years by John Grdina - a prominent Cleveland area magician in the Vaudeville era. Grdina used the tray in his act to change a spring rabbit into a box of candy to hand out to an audience member. The tray shows much wear from extensive use (see photo) and the elastic cloth, vital to the working, has lost most of its spring. This cloth would need replacement if this prop is intended for performance use. Handling instructions (NOT ORIGINAL) are included. The photos show the tray on a stand (not included). This is an uncommon prop from an accomplished manufacturer.
