here we have a vintage 1920 Gibson model A-4 mandolin.  the is no interior label but it does have a penciled serial number of 60476 and a factory order number ink stamped on the inner neck block of 11333. both numbers are correct for an instrument made by Gibson in the early 20's.  the mandolin was purchased recently from a customer of ours who's grandmother had passed away and left them the mandolin, so she knew why it was put away in the closet because of the binding falling off.  it now has the correct vintage ivroid grained binding and the binding was then tinted with correct vintage style tinted nitrocellulose lacquer. the ebony tailbutton is non original. I believe all else is original but the lower half of the tailpiece may have been replaced because it appears to be chrome instead of nickel the engraved Gibson tailcover is clearly original. tuners work fine with no slippage, one of the e string tuners has a slight bend to the shaft but it doesn't affect how it works. frets and fretboard are in excellent shape no wear and no divots in the fretboard.  there are no cracks, breaks or open seams, except for the fretboard binding and tailpiece base, there have been other repairs or modifications to the instrument. the mandolin plays well with no issues. The back and rim are made from nicely matched flamed and birdseye maple, the top is a perfectly bookmatched piece of tight grained spruce, obviously choice wood picked for the higher end models  the pictures clearly show the excellent condition of the instrument . comes with a fairly new hardshell case
