Hamerton used examples from the very finest etchers of the day to illustrate his definitive work on the art form.

Signed in the plate as Fred Slocombe.

Fine, clean condition other than some staining in the outer margins, free of repairs or restoration.

A crisp, dark impression printed on robust heavy grade wove paper, blank verso. 

 Approx. 10" x 7" (250mm x 180mm) printed area only with good margins beyond. 

Frederick Albert Slocombe (1847-1920) was an accomplished 19th century English painter and etcher from Hampstead, London.

He hailed from a family of fellow artists including his brothers Charles, Philip and Edward.

Fred, as he was usually known, specialised in rustic landscapes and country scenes and his masterful representation of trees and foliage is widely admired.

He exhibited around England for around 50 years including the prestigious Royal Academy.
