STC stands for "Sound Transmission Class" which is used to rate doors, windows, walls, enclosures, partitions and other acoustic barriers. The higher the rating, the better the material is at providing privacy and preventing sound intrusion.

The STC rating is an overall measure of a sound barrier's effectiveness. This number is deprived from Sound Transmission Loss (STL) tests which show, frequency by frequency, how a standard wall (two layers of 5/8" gypsum on 2x4 studs) is improved by an insulator. MuteX? beats the next nearest competitor hands down in this category, especially in the "intelligible speech" frequency range (500 Hz to 2,000 Hz).
