This porcelain demitasse cup and saucer was produced in France by a Limoges decorating firm in the 1890s.  There are hand painted letters J. P. R. on the cup.  The porcelain blank marking is gilded over.  The saucer is 5 inches in diameter and 7/8 of an inch deep.  The cup is 2 1/4 inches high with a diameter of 2 1/8 inches.  The cup is quatrafoil shaped on top and blown out and puffy on the bottom.  It has a fancy, rococo style handle.  The ground color is cobalt blue.  The set is  elaborately hand gilded with two colored raised gold.  The front of the cup has a hand painted scene of cupid with his quiver of arrows, preparing an attack on some love sick victim.  There is a reserve on the saucer with musical instruments and flowers.  The painting is done with fine detail and soft colors.  It is exquisite and rare.
