Schöner Cleoniceras besairiei mit opalisierender Schale aus Majunga im Nordwesten Madagaskars. Unter schwierigsten Bedingungen graben an dieser Fundstelle einheimische Fossilsammler in Mannlöchern nach diesen fantastischen Ammoniten. Da es bis zur nächsten befahrbaren Straße mehr als 50 km Fußmarsch sind, werden von diesen Ammoniten meist nur aus dem Gestein herausgelöste Exemplare angeboten. Der Transport großer Stufen mit viel anhaftendem Gestein ist schlichtweg kaum realisierbar. Der gerade Mundrand des Ammoniten resultiert aus den restriktiven Bestimmungen in Madagaskar, die eine Ausfuhr von Fossilien nur erlauben, wenn zur Wertschöpfung im Land irgendeine Art der Bearbeitung des Steines erfolgt ist. Der findige Madagasse behilft sich mit einem Sägeschnitt.
Beautiful Cleoniceras besariei with an opalescent shell from Majunga in north-west Madagascar. Under the most difficult conditions, local fossil collectors dig in manholes at this site for these fantastic ammonites. Since it is more than 50 km to walk to the nearest motorable road, these ammonites are usually only offered as specimens that have been detached from the rock.
