Eine der etwa 200 beschriebenen Spezies der Kauri- oder Porzellanschnecken. Der Ursprung des Namens „Porzellanschnecke" ist bei der Ansicht dieser wunderschönen hochglänzenden Schneckengehäuse selbsterklärend. Diese Schnecken bedecken ihre Schale rundum mit einer Membran, dem Mantel, der zum einen der Kalkabscheidung zum Aufbau des Gehäuses dient, zum anderen aber davor schützt, von anderen Organismen bewachsen zu werden. Das führt zur typisch glänzenden Oberfläche aller Kaurischnecken.

One of the approximately 200 described species of cowrie or porcelain snails. The origin of the name "porcelain snail" is self-explanatory when you look at this beautiful, high-gloss snail shell. These snails cover their shell all around with a membrane, the coat, which on the one hand serves to separate lime to build up the shell, but on the other hand protects it from other organisms to be overgrown, resulting in the typically shiny surface of all cowrie snails.
