Vintage, Norwalk, circa 1863-1875 #470 model mortise lock with brass key, patent date looks like April 28th, 1863.     

FACEPLATE: Mortise lock has a nickel plated brass face plate length of 5 1/2" and a width of 7/8" thickness of 1/8". 

BACKSET: Backset (the distance from the front edge of the face plate to the center of the knob post hole) is 2 1/2". 

BOX: The box measures 3 1/4" from the front edge of the faceplate to the back of the box.  The box measures 3 3/4" top to bottom.

DROP: The drop (the distance from the center of the knob post hole to the center of the round portion at the top of the key slot) is 2 1/8".  

KNOB POST: The lock utilizes a standard 5/16" knob post.

Works perfectly, should last another 150 years!
