Painter born in Ulverston, Cumbria the son of a
woodcarver who taught locally. Henry studied at Barrow School of Art and in
1906 was awarded a scholarship to the Royal College of
Art where his abilities won him a travelling scholarship to
Italy where he was to return to paint on many occasions. He taught at West
Bromwich School of Art, and at Bath Academy and
became Vice-President at Winchester College of Art. He retired in 1947 to
Coniston Cumbria and showed, not for the first time with the Lake Artists
Society. He showed at the Royal Academy and Walker Art Gallery,
Liverpool his son Henry Wilkinson was an engraver and sometime silversmith.
