Marcel Breuer's Story
Marcel Lajos Breuer was a Hungarian-American modernist
architect and furniture designer, known for the Wassily
Chair and the Cesca Chair, which The New York Times have
called some of the most important chairs of the 20th
century.
His work includes art museums, libraries, college
buildings, office buildings, and residences, among which
are:
New York's Whitney Museum of American Art (1966)
IBM Research Center in La Gaude, France (1961)
U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development
in Washington, D.C. (1963–1968)
UNESCO
Headquarters in Paris (1958)
He is regarded as one of the great innovators of modern
furniture design and one of the most-influential figure
in "internationalism" – a major architectural style
dominant until the 1970s.
Cesca Chair
Marcel Breuer created the Cesca Chair shortly after
leaving the Bauhaus in 1928 and named it after his
adopted daughter Francesca. The chair consists of a
tubular steel frame, rattan seat and backrest and
inherently tied to the material innovation and design
principles he formed at the German design school.
While designing the chair, Breuer found inspiration in
the tubular steel construction of a bicycle.

made me interested in polished metal, in shiny
and impeccable lines in space as new components
for our interiors. I considered such polished
and curved lines not only symbolic of our modern
technology, but actually technology itself."

The Cesca chair was the first tubular-steel-frame,
caned-seat chair to be mass-produced. Now, the chair is
considered as one of "the 10 most important chairs of
the 20th century".

At first I gave it a low rating because it didn�t come with any screws or screw holes. Now I understand that the Bruer chairs come in several styles so the holes wouldn�t match up the same on all chairs. Drilling the holes ourselves was easy and the replacement parts are excellent quality.

Great replacement for torn cane seat and back chairs.
The replacement seat and back arrived in excellent condition and make the chair, that we have for 35 years, look new.
We have replaced the seat and back many times because the cane parts wear off after a while. The natural is beautiful and with time it gets a very good looking golden colour that is super.
We have also, in another room, replaced them in the original black, the chair is also beautiful.
We are very satisfied with the fast service.

The Seat and back look fine installed. The underside was a bit rough, which doesn't really matter. The seat was pre-drilled, and although the back holes were not right, they did warn about that possibility. The front holes allowed positioning the piece.
The back had no holes, leaving one to guess on its position. There was a sticker to indicate the top. A dimension would have really helped.
Offering the right screws would also be a good idea.

First, the prompt delivery was a plus. The chair replacement are of the same quality of the original. The only negative was the screw holes which were drilled di not match the originals. However, my chairs are over 35 years old. So, this was a minor complaint. Overall 5+ rating.

We have had our chairs for over 30 years and these replacements are a perfect match. The only issue was the natural shown in the picture is really a honey stain. I ordered the natural assuming the picture was correct, but it doesn't match. Other than that, the back and seat match my set and were no trouble to install.
