"Whatever Thor canst do -- Hercules can accomplish more mightily!"
- Hercules Panhellenios
Marvel Cinematic Universe MCU Key:
- THOR: LOVE & THUNDER
- The First Titular Appearance of the son of Zeus...HERCULES!
Yes - HERCULES! While technically "Heracles" is the son of Greek mythology's Zeus and "Hercules" in the Roman equivalent of the demi-god and the son of Jupiter, who's keeping track? Not us! What's important is that Marvel Studios' Thor sequel introduced the heroic Champion to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and has set him on a path that will eventually bring him into conflict with THOR and the AVENGERS!
The character of Hercules Panhellenios, first introduced in the Thor-starring series Journey Into Mystery Annual #1 (1965), enjoyed frequent appearances in Thor and sporadic appearances in Avengers until he gained a regular gig as team leader of a new group of Marvel heroes The Champions in 1975. Known for his strength, wild adventures and overt masculinity as well as nicknames like "Muscle Boy" and "Skirt Man", Hercules finally graduated from the 1970's team title into his very FIRST SOLO SERIES at the tail-end of the Bronze Age in 1982.
In that series by creator Bob "Babyface" Layton, Hercules, the "Prince of Power," is a Multiversal variant of the Hercules featured in Thor, The Champions, and The Avengers. Set in the future and in the Earth-829 universe, Hercules' first solo outing in the greater Marvel Universe is adventurously comedic and features bare-chested gods, recording robots, devious SKRULLS and even one very hungry GALACTUS.
