Christien Meindertsma - Checked Baggage: 3264 prohibited items - 2004 - 2nd edition

foreword by Hans Boutelier (English and Japanese) - not paginated (331 pages) - paperback with serrated back -

Condition: new & sealed, including prohibited item 2747 (scissors black)

In 2003, Meindertsma bought a container full of objects at Schiphol that were confiscated during one week during the security check. The contents of the book are an exhaustive catalogue of all the objects that were confiscated. Everything from children's cutlery to potato knives, hairdressing scissors to nail clippers, were among the confiscated objects and were later photographed and depicted in the book.

Meindertsma wanted to capture the strangeness of this situation: confiscating what were sometimes personal belongings at a time when security was being increased.

A confiscated object has been sealed with the book and can be found in the book.

The book has been extensively praised and discussed in, amongst others:
- Parr/Badger, The Photobook: A History volume II, pages 287
- Martin Parr's Best Books of the Decade, pages 18
- Frits Gierstberg, The Dutch Photobook, pages 210

Besides that, her work has been exhibited in, amongst others, the MoMa in New York, and the Victoria & Albert Museum in London.
