*  Formerly the sole species in the Belamcanda genus, before being transferred to the genus Iris and renamed Iris domestica.
*  Low maintenance-- tolerates high humidity, yet hardy to cold frosts. 
*  Perennial herb with orange/yellow flowers that bloom for several weeks in summer 
*  Commonly grown as annual to harvest roots in the fall (She Gan).
*  Beautiful orange hues attract butterflies, accent landscape, and are used for cut/dried flowers.
*  Species is hermaphrodite and easily self-sows (harvest seed pods to avoid free-seeding)
*  Used in herbal remedies for liver issues, to improve appetite, and to reduce fever
*  Also used for to reduce cough, laryngitis, tonsillitis, and for its natural anti-inflammatory properties

GROWING RECOMMENDATIONS:
1.  Sow 1/4" deep in small pots/flats with moistened seed-starting mix. 
2.  Place in warm indirect sunlight and keep soil moist. Germination should occur in 14-28 days. 
3.  Resize into bigger pots as needed. Transplant 4" tall seedlings 12" apart after last frost. Protect young plants during the winter.

*** Roots can be harvested anytime from late autumn through early spring.
