Nalan taught biology for 20 years before returning to school. She had always loved art and wanted to paint. Nalan studied art at the Simons School for the Arts at the College of Charleston, in Charleston SC. She was juried in as a member of the Charleston Arts Guild and exhibited there, at the Blackbaud Corporation’s Exhibit, at Spencer Art Gallery, and at Sermet's Corner.  
 
Nalan currently lives in London, where she has exhibited at Gallery 528 and Cranleigh Lawn Tennis and Social Club. Her paintings are inspired by the places she has lived and traveled to, by contemporary events, and by the works of other artists. She also paints by commission.
