A superb example of a
World War Two Royal Naval
Battleship or Destroyer
Hand-Held Tannoy Microphone
for announcements made
from the Bridge to Ship's Company
on the high seas.
Measuring approx 8.5" high,
painted in battleship-grey
and still bearing its stores re-issue label
& the remains of internal wires within the handle,
the microphone also retains its
original light tan webbing strap for wear around the deck.
Still bearing various black rubber stampings including the
War Department Arrow
along with its original rubber mouthpiece,
this is an impressive artefact from the bridge of
a Royal Naval warship in WW-II..
Found just south of the French Channel Port of Caen,
in the Summer of 2022, it was possibly used during the
Royal Navy's supporting bombardments of the
D-Day Invasion of the Normandy Beaches
on June 6th 1944.
