ANTIQUE 18TH CENTURY HENRY GREGORY INDIA HOUSE LONDON SURVEYORS NAUTICAL COMPASS. Marked H Gregory near the India house London. Brass construction. Face measures 6 1/2” across. Bubble in level is in good shape. Total length is about 16 1/4” long. I didn’t clean or polish it any. Overall the compass is in really nice shape for being around 250 years old. Unsure if stand is original. There an older repair to the one leg. Tripod legs are about 52” long. The base on tripod is brass. The set screw is modern. Includes an older dovetail wooden case that appears to be 100 plus years old. Henry Gregory was a renowned instrument maker who lived from 1744-1782. A great piece from a marker who’s works are in the Smithsonian museum. Comes as seen in the photos.
