SCARLET WITCH

It's often the case that the more powerful a character is, the more belabored they are by trouble and tragedy. Keeping a character ill, depressed, distracted or even dead also keeps them from using their powers -- and allows the particular narrative problem of them using their powers to be avoided, at least for a while. Characters with depth, that are both complex and powerful, are often diminished to the background, perhaps even ignored; they require time and attention and skill to be properly addressed. DC Comics' Superman and Marvel's SCARLET WITCH both have suffered -- perhaps even still suffer -- for many of these reasons. Occasionally, they get lucky.

SCARLET WITCH made her First Appearance in Stan Lee and Jack Kirby's X-Men #4 (1963), a troubled and all-too-powerful teen from Day One. Still, she earned herself a spot on Marvel's premier super-team, THE AVENGERS, in 1965's Avengers #16. Thirteen years later, in Avengers #185-187 (1979), the Scarlet Witch's origin was finally told. Fifteen years after that, in 1994, Wanda Maximoff achieved every superhero's final milestone: her own self-titled series.

It was a long road for Wanda Maximoff to reach Scarlet Witch #1, one longer than most and filled with more than her fair share of despair, grief, tragedy. It's also a road that has been, intentionally or not, very well mirrored by the Scarlet Witch's journey in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While currently presumed deceased by her own hand in the MCU, a Scarlet Witch solo film is almost certainly in the works and one that literally every MCU fan alive will celebrate once its officially announced.

That film will be milestone for Wanda Maximoff on-screen, in the same way that Scarlet Witch #1 is a milestone on paper.  That's the significance of this book, and why we can think of no better reason than to say:
