ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Thomas W. Becker has been a writer-collector-numismatist for more than fifteen years. A graduate of the University of Missouri and a former history teacher in St. Louis County, he became Assistant Di rector of the Money Museum of National Bank of Detroit in 1966 and began studying and lecturing about numismatics on a national scale, He later became the Editor of Coins magazine and the Coin Collector and Shopper in Iola, Wisconsin, and was later appointed Associate Director of Collector Communications at The Franklin Mint. He was recently named Senior Vice-President of International Program Development Corporation and also became president of International Collector So- cieties. A prolific author and winner of numerous literary awards, Becker has written nearly one hundred feature articles about all facets of numismatics. In 1962 he privately published Art In Commemorative Coins, and later the same year his first major work Pageant Of World Commemorative Coins was released by Whitman Publishing Company. His latest book, The Coin Makers, is now in a revised edition and was first published in 1969 by Doubleday Book Company, New York City. He finds nothing unusual about sharing interests in numismatics, space exploration and photography, and in fact has often brought all these interests to bear on the same article, especially when writing about space medals - a collecting field he helped develop. A creative photo journalist and designer of specialized promotional media, he has de livered more than forty slide-illustrated addresses about numismatic and space and has gained a distinguished international reputation i these fields, and in the art of combined communications. He presentl lives in Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania, with his wife and four children.
