Vocal sounds at your fingertips

The VE-500 allows for flexible sound creation, from subtle nuances to the effusive vocals heard in the latest charts. Harmony and pitch correction have been greatly enhanced with the latest algorithms, making it easier than ever to add musical vocal harmonies. The VE-500 is a stompbox-type unit that can be easily integrated into any pedal board. By connecting a guitar to the unit's input, the VE-500 detects the guitar sound and reflects it to the harmony, pitch-correct, and vocoder functions. A through output provides a natural, uncolored sound for output to a guitar effects board. Vocal sounds can be output directly to a PA mixer, stage monitors, or recording equipment via the stereo XLR outputs.

Intelligent harmony function controlled by guitar or MIDI

Even with a single vocalist, the VE-500 can easily add multiple backing choruses to an ensemble for a one-step-ahead performance. A state-of-the-art auto-detection algorithm analyzes input guitar chords and generates harmonies of up to three chords. In addition, a mode that can automatically handle complex songs that include modulations is also included. If necessary, the harmonies themselves can be set to subtle shimmer and musical affinity with vocal tones can also be fine-tuned. Harmony control can also be realized by connecting the VE-500 to an external device such as a keyboard or DAW via MIDI.

Bringing Imagination to Sound - Vocal Dedicated Effects

The VE-500 is equipped with a number of high-quality effects tuned specifically for vocals. In addition, various routing options, such as series/parallel, allow you to add separate effects for harmonies and vocals, for example. The basic sound can be enhanced, EQ'd, de-esser'd, and compressor'd in the preamp section to create a glossy sound, which can be further enriched by adding reverb with two independent delays/reverbs. The unit also features the classic chorus, flanger, and tremolo effects, as well as sub-delay/reverb, distortion, radio voice, ring modulator, slicer, filter, and other effects that accentuate the song. Up to four of these effects can be used simultaneously, allowing you to design your vocal sound exactly the way you want it with the VE-500.

Make Your Guitar Sing - Vocoder Function

Another notable feature of the VE-500 is the vocoder function, inherited from the BOSS VO-1 compact pedal, which allows the user to sing in an electric voice along with a guitar connected to the VE-500. It can also reproduce the "talkbox sound" heard in hit songs of yesteryear, as if the guitar were singing, without the need for a mouth tube.

From pitch keeping to "kero-kero-kero voice" - pitch-correct function

The VE-500 also has a separate section for pitch correction guided by guitar or MIDI. This function is useful for songs where the pitch tends to be unstable, or when a member who is not the main vocalist sings harmonies, since the pitch will be accurate without any discrepancy. This function can also be used at extreme settings to produce hard pitch correction, often referred to as the "kero kero voice" heard in dance music, or to sing in a wide range of settings, from mechanical vocals to robot voices.

Customizable Controls

The VE-500's highly visible display and easy-to-use knobs and buttons make recalling patches and changing settings a snap. 3 knobs can be assigned individual parameters, and 3 footswitches can be used for customization. Three footswitches are also provided to control patch selection, turn specified effects and harmonies on and off, looper functions, and more as desired. Furthermore, external footswitches, expression pedals, and MIDI devices can be added for even greater performance flexibility. Up to 99 patches can be stored, and a PC (Mac/Windows) can be connected via USB to support setting changes and library management with dedicated software.
