STARGIRL
Early Cover & Pencil Art by TODD MCFARLANE
We've been fans of the DC Universe turned CW Arrowverse series STARGIRL since the first episode dropped back in May 2020, and while its different interpretation of the Justice Society of America is 360 degrees different from what we'd initially have preferred, the show grows on you and, bottom line, it's just cool to have the JSA characters on TV - period. The show's main focus is on Legacy - the next generation of the JSA - and that's what DC's under-rated Copper Age book Infinity, Inc. -- the series in which many of Stargirl's characters first appeared - was all about, too.
Infinity, Inc. was not only a spin-off of another Justice Society-related title, All-Star Squadron, it was also the title on which super-creator TODD MCFARLANE cut his proverbial artistic teeth. Infinity, Inc #14, in fact, was McFarlane's first published cover art, and long before McFarlane's Marvel creation Venom swung onto the scene, two of his earliest co-created characters -- the new HOURMAN and new DOCTOR MIDNIGHT -- made their FIRST APPEARANCES in Issue #21 (1985).
Thirty-seven years later, both characters finally made it to TV and to Stargirl. They may not have beaten Venom or Spawn to the Big Screen or any screen, for that matter, but they definitely paved the way.
