Raoul Dufy (1877-1953)
NU COUCHÉ Á LA DRAPERIE BLEUE (1930)

reclining nude woman lying down on the blue draperie

old lithography signed in the plate

paper: arches

length 49 cm
height 42 cm

70 cm by 50 cm on mounting card.

Overall very beautiful, and very fresh. On first sight it is a wonderful surprise. Probably best i've had!

The print is fresh but the paper shows signs of age on the reverse. I believe it to be a original Mourlot print, reproduced from Pierre Levy's collection in 1969. I bought and imported from France. Originates from a french estate sale.

Thought to be a print of a gouache painting from the same period (see link to Sotheby's sale reference below).

On research: I believe this is from a "Fourth album of a series devoted to the collection of Mr Pierre Lévy, printed in 1000 copies on Vélin d'Arches completed printing on November 4, 1969 by Mourlot for the reproductions of the paintings of Raoul Dufy and by Fequet and Baudier for the unpublished text by Marcelle Berr from Turique Paris 1969."

The print titled "NU COUCHÉ" - 1930. Signed lower left - 42 x 49 cm, is listed in the fourth album.

I have also seen examples online with the same mounting card colour - a fleshy pink/beige in the same proportion.

A related (by subject) painting was sold at Sotheby's:

Raoul Dufy (3 June 1877 – 23 March 1953) was a French Fauvist painter, brother of Jean Dufy. He developed a colorful, decorative style that became fashionable for designs of ceramics and textiles, as well as decorative schemes for public buildings. He is noted for scenes of open-air social events. He was also a draftsman, printmaker, book illustrator, scenic designer, a designer of furniture, and a planner of public spaces.

The international posting price is high and reflects the cost of posting flat rather than in a roll.

Thank you.
