BIO: Isabel Bernal (born in San Sebastian, Puerto Rico in 1935) is a painter and graphic artist. Studied design, drawing and silkscreen at Mount Mary College in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in 1952. Nostalgia for the island and her desire to be near her aging grandmother took her back home two years later where she resumed her art studies at the University of Puerto Rico under Professor Osiris Delgado. After graduating in 1957, she started working as a graphic artist at the Division of Community Education (DIVEDCO), the only woman considered to be one of Puerto Rico's famed Generation of the Fifties, until her retirement in 1987. DIVEDCO closed in 1989. She’s had several solo exhibitions and has participated in several group exhibitions in Puerto Rico, Mexico, Spain and United States. Her work is included in the collection of the University of Puerto Rico and other museums; five of her serigraph posters are in the Smithsonian Institute in Washington D. C. The subjects of her work are the urban and rural landscape, and portraits. She is known for her magnificent large array of colors and unique display of light and shade.
