Original Antique Pencil Drawing of Ruins

Pencil and Watercolor of ruins, most likely St. Botolph's Priory, in Colchester, England, (alternatively, it may be Roman ruins, in Colchester or somewhere else in England). It is signed illegibly at the lower left. Please see photos. This is a typical Romantic style sketch of nature and ruins, John Constable popularized this type of sketch in England.

St. Botolphs's Priory was a medieval house of Augustinian canons in Colchester, Essex, founded c. 1093. The priory had the distinction of being the first and leading Augustinian convent in England until its dissolution in 1536

Measurements: 4 3/3 x 7 inches

Provenance: Purchased at auction house in England

Condition: Condition is commensurate with age and use. This was probably part of a sketchbook Generally good condition, some stains and minor creases on border and tape remnants on dorso. Please see photos
