Astragalus (Huang qi) - 10 Seeds

(Astragalus membranaceus = Astragalus propinquus, the Chinese herb Huang-qi, Huang qi) Herbaceous perennial is native to China. 

Traditional usage (TCM): increase vital energy and protect against illness. 

WHAT IS ASTRAGALUS USED FOR?

There is a great deal of research interest in Astragalus. It contains Astragalosides (antioxidants), which support the integrity of the respiratory tract. In addition, the polysaccharides found in Astragalus are known for their immune-supporting properties. Astragalus herb also supports deep immune function by promoting normal levels of specific immune cells and aids in their function. Astragalus appears especially effective when immune function is stressed by environmental or endogenous challenges.

Parts Used: Root 

Care & Sowing Guide:  Scarify seed lightly on medium grit sandpaper and soak overnight in myoblast tea or kelp tea, which encourages eventual n-fixing nodulation.  

Direct seed in early spring, or give 20 days’ cold, moist refrigeration and then sow cool.  Germination in 3 to 10 days.   Plants get quite large, flowering to 2 meters, with yellow flowers giving way to pea-like follicles.  The plant is a sturdy survivor and prefers full sun, average soil, and good drainage.
