THINKING MAN'S GOLF:  3M Sports Games, 1966 Board Game

Part of the 1960's vintage line of 3M Sports Games line, the double-sided plastic-coated wrap-around board (a standard for 3M sports games) is very attractive by late-60s and early-70s standards and depicts a golf course made up of 18 holes from famous golf courses.

The player is equipped with a gridded sheet depicting distance and direction, a grease pencil, and a table outlining the clubs, putting situations, and more. Dice rolls determine the distance and direction of shots and the outcome of putts.

Play: First you determine wind speed and direction. Then pick your club, place the rangefinder on the board and roll for your shot. The distance table and the direction table are used to determine where your shot landed. The location of the ball is marked with the grease pencil on the laminated, erasable board. Proceed until you reach the green and then roll on the putt table.

The vintage game serves as a reminder that 3M was a giant in an era when gaming was still a board, card and/or dice affair, and that their games were a unique product, much more advanced than anything that existed at the time. "Thinking Man's Golf," is a very challenging and quite realistic (for board games) golf game. Among sports board games, it is considered one of the best whereby 3M managed to capture the game of golf in a board game.

This game does NOT INCLUDE WAX PENCIL to use on vinyl plastic board.
