Up for sale here is this complete rebuild kit for the Sansui 8080DB (or the 890DB). This includes all the parts you need to rebuild a Sansui 8080DB (or 890DB), and includes the correct size replacement main filter capacitors. This does not include new lights or fuses. This also does not include the driver or output transistors. I also have new OnSemi MJ21195G/MJ21196G output transistors here if you need them, though if your receiver is working you don't need to replace the outputs. Each channel uses 4 outputs (2 pairs), and you should replace all 4 on the channel if you are replacing any. Please don't buy any of the Chinese output transistors on eBay--those are counterfeit and will blow up. I also have a complete light kit available here.

This kit includes replacements for all the electrolytic and tantalum capacitors in the receiver, including the two main filter capacitors, which are upgraded to new 15000 uf 63v Kemet caps. The new caps are the same diameter as the old ones so they will fit the old clamps perfectly. These have a bit more capacitance than the old filter caps, which will improve the sound a bit.

The kit also includes replacements for almost all the transistors on all the boards, except the amp driver & bias transistors and the tuner board transistors. The kit for the power supply includes replacement dual diodes and replacements for the fuse resistors, and there are also replacements for the fuse resistors on the other boards as well. There is also a new relay for the protection board. This receiver uses a very unusual MY3 relay, and the correct one is included.
You will also receive detailed instructions to help this rebuild go more smoothly.

These are all high-quality brand new genuine parts. These are the same parts I use when I rebuild Sansui equipment. I have rebuilt quite a few 9090DBs (and 5050s, 6060s, 7070s, 9090s, etc) in the last few years. The 8080DB was one of the best Sansui receivers, at least at the time (ignoring the later G-series), and it deserves a high-quality rebuild. Capacitors are Nichicon PW, Nichicon VY (the 470 uf 100v cap on the power supply board), Nichicon KL, Panasonic FC, Wima film, Panasonic film, and Kemet for the main filters. Transistors are Fairchild/Onsemi.

Please note that there are two different versions of the F-2624 driver board. The older one (more common) uses metal bias transistors and the trimmers are 5k and 1k ohms. The newer board (less common) uses 5k and 100-ohm trimmers. This kit has the trimmers for the older board, but I will be glad to swap in 100-ohm trimmers for the newer board, just let me know if you need those. If your board has four white trimmers, it's the old board. If it has two white and two blue trimmers, that's the new board. If you're not sure which board you have, just send me a picture and I can tell you.

Why buy this kit over the others on eBay?

  • Brand new, correct size main filter capacitors
  • Bleeder resistors AND 2.2 uf 250v Panasonic film bypass caps for the main filter caps
  • A full recap kit for the tuner board--no skipping that one!
  • The proper MY3 relay included. Otherwise, eventually the original relay will wear out, and you will lose a channel at low volume.
  • Replacements for ALL small transistors (except the bias/drivers and tuner board transistors). There are a lot of bad transistors on the 9090DB, and they desperately need replacing. No one else is as obsessed with replacing transistors as I am, and no one else includes replacements for as many transistors. Your receiver will sound so much better with those ancient 2SC1313s gone.
  • Full rebuild kit for the driver board, which includes replacements for the 4 trimmers, 14 small fuse resistors, 12 transistors, 2 zener diodes, and the 2 glass bead diodes.
  • Replacements for the small fuse resistors on the power supply board, protection board, driver board, and watt meter boards--the 9090DB needs these replaced, it's very important.
  • The proper low-leakage caps are included. There are loads of Nichicon KL and Wima film caps in this kit, which are necessary for a correct rebuild.
  • 8 new TO-3 mica insulators are included for the output transistors
  • An explanation of how to re-pin the Dolby board, which is not fun but is important to do
  • Very clear instructions on how to set the driver board voltages
  • Surprisingly detailed and well-written instructions, plus a link to download a free service manual

The Sansui 8080DB has a LOT more parts in it than a typical vintage stereo receiver. This kit includes a total of 199 parts, which is more than most of the other kits I sell. This will be a long, slow rebuild. Re-pinning the Dolby board will take you HOURS. The parts for each board are individually bagged for ease of installation, and the instructions will tell you how the transistors and diodes go in, but there are a LOT of parts to replace here, so if you do not have a lot of experience with vintage gear I would not recommend starting with this one. You should know what you're doing and have a good soldering iron, a desoldering gun such as a Hakko FR-301, heat-sink compound, and a dim-bulb tester with 100W or 150W incandescent bulb.

Please see my pictures for details. No generic pictures here--I have clear pictures of the actual parts you will receive.

US shipping and handling is $12, and international is $28. If you have any questions, please ask.
