Dire di un film Troma che è demenziale è come dire che il sole brucia: una cosa ovvia. Tuttavia, all'interno dello sterminato archivio della famigerata casa non è affatto facile trovare un buon film: la maggior parte sono sciocchezze senza capo né coda. Invece questo RABID GRANNIES, del belga Kervyn, ha un sapore differente: innanzitutto perché è opera di un regista indubbiamente capace (basti vedere la scelta delle inquadrature per convincersene, non c'è dubbio). Se solo la sceneggiatura fosse un po' meno statica e offrisse qualche spunto degno della cornice in cui è inserita parleremmo oggi di RABID GRANNIES come di un classico dello splatter. Già, perché in fondo è il sangue l'elemento centrale. Dopo una (troppo) lunga introduzione che delinea grossolanamente i molti protagonisti della vicenda, tutti chiamati dalle vecchie zie per la loro rituale festa di compleanno in una bella villa in stile, comincia l'esplosione splatter. Il film prende ampi spunti da DEMONI 2, con le due vecchine che si trasformano in violentissime epigone dei mostri creati da Stivaletti per il film di Bava e la villa diventa teatro delle loro sanguinarie scorribande, come in una versione demenziale della CASA di Raimi. Tutti prendono a rifugiarsi in stanze separate, barricandosi dietro le porte, ma i tranelli delle vecchie zie renderanno le cose assai difficili. Sangue a fiumi, violenza spietata con la villa a fare da inusuale cornice kitsch insieme alle altrettanto insolite musiche “elisabettiane”. Un colpo di genio la figura del prete coniglio, talmente egoista da rifiutarsi di rompere le barricate persino quando fuori, in pericolo, c’è una bimba di otto anni. Splatter demenziale, certo, ma a volte la dedizione e l'impegno del regista riescono a nasconderne i limiti. Resta comunque piuttosto tedioso. MARCEL M.J. DAVINOTTI JR.

VG = Very Good: Obviously been played many times but no major deterioration in sound quality despite noticeable surface marks and occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on cover or contents, without any major defects.
Gd+ = Better than Good: Sound quality has deteriorated but with no distortion. Light scratches and occasional mild scratch. Cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges but not spine splits or discoloration.
Gd = Good: Sound quality has noticably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion. Mild scratches. Cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration etc.
Fair: Still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise - it may even jump. Cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.
Poor: Will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise etc. Cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.
