The music of "Grace and Gratitude" draws its inspiration from a variety of belief systems, including "chants from Tibet and Japan, words and prayers from Judaism and Islam, a Latin benediction from the Catholic Mass and a poem attributed to St. Francis of Assisi." The ten songs are woven together with instrumental interludes to create an unbroken cycle of music. Newton-John said the album "is really from my heart and spirit."
