This is an object that was placed in front of graves in cemeteries in Italy during the 19th and 20th centuries. 
For about 30 years it has been increasingly in disuse. They can still be seen in the cemeteries of small mountain villages or in sparsely populated areas. 
It is a small glass object that can contain a small candle (similar to a tealight). 
It consists of two glass parts, as you can see from the photos: a lower cup and a perforated cover that is simply placed on the base. 
 
This piece dates back to the 50s; it is an heirloom of italian religious peasant culture.
