This listing is for 4 antique, vintage 1920's Valentines, all used, all with paper lace and sticker accents.  These valentines were sold in kits, that included the cards with paper lace and stickers.  This was so popular that the kits continued all the way into the 1950's.  They are all so sweet, and all have previous owners inscriptions.  There are age related flaws - bumps and creases to a few of the points, tears and even a small missing piece of paper lace, and some age discoloration to some of the paper lace.  One is beige, and it started out beige.  One is white which has all kinds of beige - that one is age discoloration.  All of these age related flaws are called "patina".  It is to be expected, and in some cases, necessary!  The very elaborate popup valentines from the early part of the 20th century were reproduced in the 1990s and 2000s.  Hallmark made many of them.  If the Valentine is a fancy standup, and it's marked Hallmark, it is probably new.  I see them all the time being sold as antique.  I think the dealers are a bit suspicious of their own stock, as they often market them as antique, but price them lower than where they would be priced if they were antique.

One way to tell, is to look at the back.  If it is bright white, it is probably new.  Paper used for these valentines had acid in it, which causes paper to brown over time.  This is one reason people like the "Whitney Made".  When you see that, it hasn't been reproduced.  Once you hold these types of valentines in your hands, you will be able to see the difference.  I am not against buying the new ones, just against them being marketed as antique!  (so shoot me.  I am a purist).
