The R1A is a unique microphone since it is a high quality and low cost vintage style ribbon microphone with active electronics using high end components.
The R1A offers the special and natural sound that has been available in classical microphones like the RCA 44 and 77 that are still used to make high quality recordings today after around 80 years. On top of that, the active circuitry raises the output level considerably to be similar to that of many condenser microphones. This has the good effect that one does not need special high gain microphone preamps when using the R1A on quiet sound sources. It also makes the R1A able to drive long microphone cables without any problems and insures that the sound is consistent with different preamps.
One of the factor that usually changes the sound of passive ribbon microphones is the input impedance of the following microphone preamp. The active output circuitry in the R1A buffers the ribbon and the gain make-up transformer from the outside world and the result is that the R1A will consistently give you maximum performance in any situation.
The R1A is very well suited for the recording of most sound sources like vocals, acoustic instruments, strings, horns, orchestras and choral groups and many live sound applications. In spite of its low cost, the R1A meets the most stringent demands. To get maximum benefit and trouble free use out of the R1A please read this manual carefully.
In most cases, orders are processed and shipped within one business day. Orders placed before 1pm US Pacific time during the week are generally shipped the same day. Contact us with any questions or special requests and we will do our best to accommodate you.
We offer free shipping on most items over $99 to destinations within the continental US. Hawaii, Alaska, Puerto Rico, and international destinations will require shipping and handling charges. We ship to most countries in the world via FedEx or USPS; most international orders are delivered within 5 business days of shipment, barring unforeseen delays caused by customs or weather conditions.
We insure each package for its full value and require signature for most orders. International customers, take note that you are responsible for all duties and taxes imposed by your local government or customs officials. These fees are not included in our shipping/handling charges.
We are pleased to offer an extended warranty service, which in most cases covers you gear for one year beyond the expiration of the manufacturer's warranty. This free warranty means that you can always come to us in the event of a problem, even within the window of the manufacturer's warranty. Note that some specific items may not qualify for this service.

We offer risk-free returns for most new items in our catalog. Most items purchased from Perfect Circuit have a 30-day return policy starting from the date of shipment. If a return is initiated within 15 days of the original shipment date, no restocking fees will be charged.
Note, however, that outgoing shipping costs will be charged for change-of-mind returns and faulty/warranty claim returns which we are unable to verify.
Some specific types of items are not eligible for returns—including (but not limited to) apparel, microphones, headphones, consumable goods, and media. Additionally, our return policy does not cover items damaged outside the course of normal use, nor does it cover items modified by customers or damaged due to use of improper power supply voltages. Returns of new items made beyond the 15-day risk-free returns cutoff—as well as returns of Demo, B-Stock, or Used items—are subject to a 15% restocking fee. If an item is returned within the 15-day window but is damaged, missing its box or accessories, or is otherwise unfit for resale, a restocking fee will be charged.
