Hood’s photos of the world , First Series No 71 Saint Peter’s Rome .

Can you imagine there was limited travel for the average person and to be able to walk into a general store and get a pack of these to see images from the around the world would have been just mind blowing. These are a big part of American History and one of the first company’s to produce images from around the world for the average person to see and imagine traveling there.

1890’s-1900 C. I. Hood & Co., Lowell, Mass, makers of Hood's Sarsaparilla, put out a series of Photographs of areas in the United States and in the World. The First Series contained 10 packets of photos, with each packet containing 10 numbered cards--sometimes an extra 11th advertising card could be found in the packet. There was a picture on the front of the card and on the back of the card was a brief description of what was shown in the front photo and then followed several paragraphs about a Hood's product and finally a paragraph on how a Hood's product had done wonders for one or more consumers.
