Mary Edith Durham studied at the Royal Academy of Arts and worked as an artist and illustrator. She illustrated the Reptile section of the Cambridge Natural History and was one of the most prominent British anthropologists of the 20th century . She travelled much in the Balkan countries and did much to help the Albanians and many in that country consider her a national heroine.
