Prototype: The new Bombardier multi-purpose locomotives differ significantly from their predecessors, and not just because of the redesigned locomotive body. The manufacturer presented the 187 series as the first variant of the current Traxx 3 series at the Transport and Logistics trade fair in Munich in May 2011. This is a locomotive equipped for 15 kV 16.7 Hz and 25 kV 50 Hz alternating current, which is equipped with a 180 kW diesel auxiliary engine in order to be able to travel on sections of the route without overhead lines ("Last Mile"). During diesel operation, all four traction motors are operated; The starting tractive force is just as high as with electric operation. Without a trailer load, a class 187 locomotive with its diesel engine can reach a top speed of 60 km/h; a train weighing 2,000 tons can NOCH be accelerated to 40 km/h. The diesel auxiliary engine has a displacement of 7,150 cm³ and meets the strictest emissions standards. The tank capacity of 400 liters is enough for up to eight hours of diesel operation; short distances can also be covered using only the built-in battery. The transition from electric traction to diesel traction can take place while driving. If requested - such as with orders from DB AG - Bombardier can also deliver the locomotives without the "Last Mile" package. For the first time, the side surfaces of an electric locomotive were equipped with a device for clamping tarpaulins on which advertising can be attached.
