Vintage Ad-Dabbour Weekly Arabic Political Satire Magazine Portfolio of Over 40 Full Page Color Illustrations for 1939 New York World's Fair.

Ad-Dabbour, A Weekly Political Illustrated Magazine Published in Arabic. Established in 1923. Beirut, Lebanon. 9” x 12 ¼”. Portfolio of over 40 full page color illustrations each with captions (in Arabic), a dedication Son Excellence Mr. Emille Edde, President de la Republique Libanaise, and an introductory text page (in Arabic). As indicated by the magazine founder, Youseef Moukarzel, in the Introductory page, this portfolio was put together from early magazine prints published by Ad-Dabbour for the New York World's Fair in 1939, where Republic of Lebanon had a Pavilion presence. A google translate of the introductory page is included in the photo in English for your reference. A unique and rare item for your collection.

 

Good vintage condition with wear to edges of portfolio, losses to spine, and some yellowing within. Ex-libris stamps of Elias Etoll, Troy, N.Y., with his stamp unobtrusively at the ends and on the blank back sides of some leaves.

 

Ad-Dabbour is referenced as one of the oldest magazines in Lebanon, founded by Youseef Moukarzel in 1922 to engage with contemporary politics. The magazine was forced to close in 1977 during the Lebanese Civil War, but was restarted as a print publication 2000-2019.
