Jacob Heller

“Village Street, Mexico"

Woodblock print

c. 1950’s

12 3/4" x 8 1/8” (image)
20 1/2” x 15" (frame)

A delightful and vibrant woodblock print of a street scene in Mexico by mid-century artist Jacob Heller.  Jacob Heller was an American ex-patriot living and working in Mexico. Inspired after finding a set of woodblock carving tools, he went on to capture the vitality and beauty of Mexican life in a series of woodblocks that are as fresh today as when they were created back in the 50’s and 60’s.  A blend of figurative and abstract, they become almost expressionistic and make for a charming glimpse into Mexican life and culture that will be instantly recognizable to anyone who has traveled there.

I’ve seen other works by Jacob Heller in varying conditions (and many sadly in very poor condition) but this work is in excellent condition with high quality framing (including linen hand-wrapped matting with gold liner) done by Worden’s Fine Framing in the Pacific Heights neighborhood of San Francisco.  With perhaps a couple of very minor blemishes to frame (that one has to scrutinize to see), this is ready to hang and appreciate now.  The back of frame states this is printed on vellum however I have not removed print from frame to examine further.  Note occasional reflections in glass in my pictures.

Please look for my other items as I also have a second Jacob Heller woodblock in matching frame which would accompany this piece beautifully.  Contact me if interested in both as I will combine for shipping.

Print will be carefully packaged and shipped either UPS, Fed Ex, or USPS depending upon destination.  I take great pride in packaging and my goal is to ensure that this makes it to you in the exact condition it is today.

Thank you for looking and please reach out with any questions.
