Dorthy Francis was born in 1923 and was known for her painted scenes of Inuit and First Nations People, especially children. She spent her early years of her childhood days spent near Duck Lake in northern Saskatchewan.  later in life she moved to Saskatchewan to BC in 1952 and raised her 5 children at North Vancouver before moving with husband, Hal, to Qualicum Beach on Vancouver Island. In 1996 Dorthy lost her husband Hal who passed away. After her loss of her husband, she later returned to Vancouver in 2006 where she lived and worked in her apartment overlooking the bustling False Creek waterfront until her death in 2016 at the age of 93.
