This chip controls the internal adjustable resistor to control the volume via SPI interface, and the audio signal passes through the chip in analog way throughout, without any digital conversion or VI/IV conversion, which does not affect the sound quality.
This chip has the advantages of very high DNR and SNR, very low THD+N, very fine volume control, no built-in op-amp (so sound quality and performance are not limited by the op-amp), and so on. Distortion indicators are much lower than other programs (such as MAS6116, PGA2310, Alpen RK50, Alpen RK27, etc.), compared with the R2R resistor / relay network program is comparable.
