Antique Photograph, Yale American flag, boxing, strange photo 1890-1910, sports.

This strange turn of the 20th century photograph has a lot going on. It appears to be some form of staged skit, or performance done at Yale College, possibly as part of a fraternal event.

Depicted is a young boxer in athletic wear, punching a speed bag surrounded by American flags.

Approaching him is a gentleman wearing a sheriffs badge and carrying a doctor’s bag that says Hiram Green.

The only reference I found to Hiram Green around that time was a Doctor Hiram Green, who was famous for running a psychiatric asylum/ sanatorium in Colorado. He was known for his extreme exercise practices as part of mental health and healing.

Additional American flags and bunching bags litter the surrounding area of the image.

Matted to 12x10 inches with an image size of 8x6 approximately.

There is some light edge chipping and corner wear. The upper portion of the photo itself has a long crack, that doesn’t translate to the back or mat, and may have possibly been there since the image was applied.
