The Kugel is the earliest form of German Glass Christmas Decorations.  Laushan glass blower, Louis Greiner-Schlotfeder, developed a glass silvering formula and the Kugel was born.  The glass blowers mixed the glass in small batches based upon proprietary recipes, allowing for a wide variety of colors, hues and shades.*  The word "kugel" means pledge of friendship, and this red grape cluster ornament is symbolic for sharing a friendly glass of wine.
