Extraordinarily rare map depicting the kingdoms of Congo and Angola. Fine impression with clear, dark lines. A visually stunning map.
The map is notable for the beautiful cartouche with depictions of Elephants and Rhinos. Large swaths of territory are left blank and presumed unknown to the cartographer. Settlements depicted suggest only those known via river.
Not seen at auction for several years & unavailable in virtually all retail stores.
Condition: Fair condition. Sever paper toning in margins & into printed image, small tear at bottom to the right of center crease. Wrinkles/damage along lower quarter of center line (see photo). Evidence of water staining throughout printed image. Loss of margin.
The severely acid toned portions of the margins have been preserved but are folded back. They are visible in the image of the verso with the latin text.
Dimensions
59.5cmx49.5cm (paper, not including folded acid toned sections)
