This is the Ilford 500E automatic exposure easel and control unit for the Ilford Multigrade 500 system. It accomodates prints up to 24x30cm. Here is a brief description of how it works:

You take a well developed negative that shows a typical, well lighted scene, e.g. a polarized or graded landscape shot. Alternatively, if you are doing portraiture studio work, just take one of the shots that are typical for your work in terms of light. On the frame, thereis a two digit counter. Set this to 50 as a starting point. Now use your chosen negative to let the frame determine the correct expose, expose and develop accordingly. If this typical image is to light, increase the counter. If it is too black, decrease the counter. Once you found the right index number, the frame will work correctly for all sizes and magnifications for that paper. Scenes that require an intentionally too bright or too dark reproduction can be adjusted by a seperated exp. comp. wheel that offers +1+2 +3 +4 +5 and -1...-5 settings to take care of that. In addition, every measurement can be modified manually.

It measures 45 x 44 x 8cm and weighs 5kg.

The frame has been used and is in good condition with signs of wear from use and age. There are superficial scuffs, marks and scratches. The top surface shows signs of discoloration / yellowing. The padding on the underside has two spots on the sides where the material has deteriorated or is not there anymore, but fortunately this has no impact on the stability of the frame.

It has been cleaned as best as possible, was tested and found to be fully working. The power lead (shown in the last photo) is included.

Please take a look at the photos as these are part of the description.
