L'SD40 è la versione expander del modello SD7 di cui possiede tutte le caratteristiche tecniche e musicali. Si avvale di una prestigiosa generazione suonora, di una imponente librerìa di Drum audio, un sistema rivoluzionario di Modeling, un Player molto versatile, Styles nella migliore tradizione Ketron e una moderna dotazione Multimediale. Di dimensioni estremamente contenute, lo strumento è del tutto unico nel suo genere ed è mirato soprattutto all'utilizzo live con master keyboard, piani digitali o fisarmonica MIDI.
L'SD40 dispone di una sezione Arranger innovativa e professionale con 260 Styles che utilizzano oltre 200 Audio Drum perfettamente sincronizzate col tempo. L'Arranger é composto da 4 sezioni ABCD, con 4 Fill In, 4 Breaks, 3 Intro, 3 Ending, To End e funzioni di Reintro, Key Start-Key Stop, Count In, Restart oltre a 5 User Tab per l'assegnazione personalizzata di funzioni aggiuntive. L’accompagnamento prevede un linea Basso più 5 Accordi e 3 Variations. É possibile assegnare 4 Voci alla parte Right (Canto) come pure abbinarle ai 4 movimenti ABCD. Il sistema Arranger è molto aperto e permette di modificare liberamente i timbri, i volumi e gli effetti di ciascun style e risalvarlo come User.
