Description:

The item up for bids is a fabulous pair of vintage machine age modern candle holders / candlesticks. The tapered one-piece concentric shafts are constructed of solid lathe-turned brass, and the bases are solid pucks of black Bakelite with beveled edges. They are heavy and well made, it is a very stable design. The sockets are about 2 inches deep and 5/8" in diameter at the top so these will fit slender half-inch base tapers. They are a superb example of the American 20^th Century skyscraper aesthetic, have some fun and bid!

Dimensions:

The overall height including the base is about 5-3/4". The sockets are about 5/8" in diameter at the opening and about 2" deep. The bases are about 4" in diameter by about 1" thick. The pair together weighs about 4-3/4 pounds.

Condition:

The condition is good vintage. They show age appropriate storage and handling wear with scuffs, scratches, and dings. The brass has a good aged patina. There is typical wax residue in the sockets and scattered wax spots in the recesses of the turned brass. The Bakelite bases have minor surface scratching. One of the bases has roughness on the bottom edge, it's there but doesn't really detract from the appearance. The connection between the brass towers and Bakelite base is rock solid, they are stable with no wobbling or looseness. It's a quality set that presents well and is suitable for use or display. The pictures are the best indicator as to condition, please use the zoom feature and check them out.
