For sale is a rare hybrid filament transformer, left behind in the radio electronics inventory of my late father, who was a radio and TV serviceman for much of his life, and was an avid HAM radio operator for over 70 years!  He loved electronics!   He always kept an ample supply of spare and replacement parts for speedy service to his customers, ready for walk-in customers to his shop, and handy for his own personal radio "projects."   All his components were stored in a smoke-free environment.

My husband did a bit of research to discover what this transformer might have been used for.   This is a bit of what he found:

DESCRIPTION:   This 115-volt, 60 cps RCA filament transformer is new old stock -- not a "pull" from scrapped equipment.  This transformer is packaged in a cardboard box, ink stamped "39A706," with no other markings, except the initials of the former owner, "L.G," who owned a TV and radio repair business.  He was also a life-long HAM operator.  The transformer was packed with a ditto entitled "No. S1291 Transformer."  The schematic designates the color coding on all 6 leads, which appears to match the configuration of the transformer.  It seems that this RCA transformer was special-ordered by "L.G." to replace a "No. S1291 transformer" and the number on the box may relate to that special order, or to the RCA application for their part number, 961795-1-1, (138052).  All three windings were tested for continuity.  This vintage transformer has probably never been powered up.  The schematic shows a 115-volt, 60 cps primary winding and a dual secondary, which features a 6.3-volt filament winding, with a 3 amp rating, and a 120 VAC winding with a 350 milli-amp rating.  (See photo of schematic.)

MANUFACTURER:   RCA (Radio Corporation of America)

MANUFACTURER'S PART NUMBER:  961795-1-1  (138052), which is die-stamped into one of the shells

SCHEMATIC:  Ditto titled "No. S1291 Transformer," enclosed in package (rust marks on it, but still readable!)

PRIMARY (INPUT POWER):  [Black and Black/Red leads]
115 volts AC, 60 cycles/sec., according to schematic

SECONDARY WINDINGS:     #1  [Filament winding:  Brown and Black/Brown leads]
6.3 volts, 3 amperes, according to schematic.

#2  [Additional winding:  Red and Red/Green leads]
120 VAC, 350 milliamps, according to schematic

TERMINATIONS:  Stranded wire leads have been stripped about 5/16" and tinned

TRANSFER CASE MATERIAL:  Steel

FINISH:  Steel transformer case and frame, painted black (see photos)

NOMINAL DIMENSIONS:  About 3-1/2" high.  The base is about 3" by 2-1/2".

MOUNTING:  Two frame bolt extensions allow chassis mounting on about 2-1/4" centers.

WEIGHT:  About 3.8 pounds.

CONDITION:  As found, as is, as photographed.  Some dirt, wear, rust, oxidation, scratches are possible, consistent with the handling, storage and environmental effects expected on an item of this vintage.  See photos.  Windings pass continuity tests, frame short tests, and checks for shorts between the windings.  Seller did not apply power to the transformer.  No returns on electronic items.

WHO WANTS THIS?  Audiophiles, renovators or restorers, collectors of vintage electronics, HAM operators, hobbyists, operators of vintage vacuum tube equipment, collectors of RCA artifacts, experimenters, and hopefully YOU!

I hope that this is the transformer that you have been looking for to complete your project or restoration!!
