Precious! Unique! Lap steel with built-in changer!"

Made in 1951. This is a unique 6-string lap steel with a built-in changer.

It has a lever on the body side of the treble string, and according to a steel guitar reference book, it can be switched to E7th, C#m, and A tuning. The guitar was not set up correctly when we received it, so we analyzed the setup by moving the lever and watching the way the changer moves. As a result, it was found to be in C#m tuning (G#, C#, E, G#, C#, E from the 6th string) when the lever is up, E7th tuning (G#, D, E, G#, B, E from the 6th string) when the lever is down toward the neck, and A tuning (A, C#, E, A, C#, E from the 6th string) when the lever is down toward the bridge. The tuning was found to be A tuning (A, C#, E, A, C#, E from the 6th string). After understanding the movement of the changer, we tuned each string while the changer selected its default state, and then used a flat-blade screwdriver to determine the range of pitch variation for each string. It is a well-designed mechanism, but it cannot be called standard tuning nowadays, and it may require some familiarity and ingenuity on the part of the player.

There are some dents, scratches, deterioration of the slide clamps on the back of the body, and rust and tarnish on the metal parts, but considering the age of the instrument, the appearance is still good. For some reason, the tone control is turned clockwise to narrow the tone.

A screw-in output jack is provided, but a special cable is included. The plug on the phone side is an Ex-pro plug. The hard case that comes with the instrument appears to be genuine, but it has some deterioration commensurate with its age. The head side of the lid is peeling off, but this does not affect the transportability of the instrument at this time.

The retro design of the instrument is also attractive. The resonance of the vintage steel is very deep. You can enjoy it even if you don't use a changer actively. Recommended for collectors and players alike.
