Fourth Generation
Antiques

A rare Bausch & Lomb microscope from 1890. Comes with a mechanical XY Stage attachement as well as original clips. Also included are cases for each lens, a container for oil, two extra eyepieces and a wood case to keep everything safe. This is possibly a demonstration microscope and is simalar to "Harvard Style" setups we have seen from this time. There is a plaque on the base which reads "BL Z8". The stage is also marked BL-Z8". Both pieces are marked Bausch & Lomb Rochester NY. The design is somewhat unique with a jug style handle that seems to have been more common during the 1920s. It measures approximately 12" tall or at least 15-1/4" when fully extended. The base is approximately 5-3/4" x 4-1/8". The case is about 14" x 6-7/8" x 9-3/4". This early microscope bears the serial number 76182 which should attribute it to 1890 based on sources online. The condition is very good with some minor signs of age or use. Some minor surface marks. Some very light tarnishing. The lenses and mirror are a little dusty but there don't seem to be any noticeable scratches or damage of any kind. Every shutter and knob we tested seemed to operate normally. The adjustment for the lens (up and down) can get off track if extended all the way up but is easy to realign. We are happy to test any feature or function that we are capable of testing. The case has a lock but the key is not present. Please refer to the photos and ask any questions prior to bidding. A very scarce early B&L Microscope with a great look. A fine addition to any collection. Scientific!
