1972 IWC International Watch Schaffhausen Cal. 8541B Auto RARE Anthracite Dial

Up for sale is an extremely rare IWC from circa 1972 with Anthracite dial. These dials were produced through a special chemical darkening process and look stunning. Head on they have a brushed grey finish but from the side they look almost black. It is a very sleek watch that took me a couple of years to track down. This example is rather nice with a preserved case that doesn't seem to be polished but retains average marks of use from over the years. The crystal has been recently replaced to properly display the stunning the dial and the dial itself is in nice shape. It is almost perfect with the exception of a couple specs and one microscratch on the surface. Both of which are not really visible in the photos and are difficult to photograph, but I noticed only after a thorough inspection.

Although the service history is unknown, the watch seems to keep time within +/-20 seconds per day on a timegrapher. With a routine service, these are often able to keep time closer to COSC. I originally had this up for sale 6 months ago and rejected a few offers around $1,700. I ended up holding on to it and taking down the listing. I only wore it for a bit before letting it sit in a safe. Upon recent inspection, the watch seemed to be losing time but the timegrapher results were the same. I had it inspected and I was told the canon pinion seems to be loose and requires tightening or replacement (about $40). I was recommended to get it fixed during a full service, so I held off. The watch is now being offered with this repair needed at a discounted price. The issue only seems to present itself when the watch is fully wound.
